Coucou is an app to practise languages by talking with Camille, an AI character (not a person). This page explains, in plain words, what we keep about you, why, who helps us, and what you can do about it.

1. Who is responsible

Coucou is a personal project run by Eduardo, in Brazil. He decides how your data is used (under Brazil's LGPD he is the "controlador"; under the EU's GDPR, the "controller"). Coucou is invitation-only and for adults (18+).

Contact: in the app, Settings → Account & privacy → Write to us. Your message goes straight to Eduardo. We answer within 15 days.

2. What we keep and why

WhatWhy
Account: first name, app language, time zone, language level, your settings, and when you agreed to this pageTo run your account (the service you asked for)
Conversations: what you say in calls and in the chat (voice and text) and Camille's repliesSo Camille can talk with you
Memory: a short summary of past talks, things you told her, your common mistakes, new wordsSo talks feel personal and help you learn. You can see and delete each item
Study: texts read, listening minutes, words practisedTo show your progress and goals
Usage: dates and length of calls, their cost to usMonthly limits, keeping costs under control (our legitimate interest)
Devices: signed-in devices (browser type, approximate city), passkeys (only the public part), notification settingsSecurity and notifications
Telegram (only if you link it): your chat with the botCall links and messages there
"Write to us" messages, with your first nameTo answer you

Legal bases: running the service you asked for (LGPD art. 7 V; GDPR art. 6(1)(b)); our legitimate interest for cost limits and security; and your consent, given at sign-up, for sending data to the companies below in other countries (LGPD art. 33 VIII).

We don't sell your data, we show no ads, and we don't use your data to train AI models. Camille is told not to remember sensitive things (health, religion, politics, sex life…) unless you ask her to. Please avoid sharing them; if you do, you can delete them from Camille's memory in Settings, and ask us (Write to us) to delete chat messages.

3. Who helps us (and where)

To work, Coucou uses these companies. They only use your data to provide their service to us.

CompanyWhat forWhere
CloudflareHosting: the app and everything it storesWorldwide, incl. USA
ElevenLabsVoice: live calls, turning speech into text, Camille's voiceUSA / EU
AnthropicClaude, the AI that writes Camille's replies and the memoryUSA
TelegramThe chat with the bot (if you link it), and delivering "Write to us" messages to EduardoWorldwide
Apple, Google, Microsoft, MozillaDelivering notifications (encrypted: they can't read them)USA
Google FontsThe app's font (your browser downloads it, so Google sees your IP address)USA

So your data goes to other countries, mainly the USA. These companies commit by contract to protect it (their data processing terms, which include the EU standard contractual clauses). Anthropic doesn't use this data to train its models; at ElevenLabs, calls aren't recorded and transcripts are deleted after 30 days.

4. How long we keep it

MemoryUntil you delete it or your account
Chat messages1 year
Voice notes in the app chat90 days
Call audioNot recorded
Call transcripts at ElevenLabs30 days
Call transcripts at CoucouOnly until the memory is updated after the call (minutes), then deleted

5. Your rights

6. Cookies and your device

One cookie, only to keep you signed in. The app also saves a few things on your device (your language, your sign-in). No tracking, no advertising cookies, so no cookie banner.

7. Security

Secret keys stay on our server; sign-in links expire; you can sign out any device and use a passkey. No system is perfect: if a serious leak happens, we'll tell you and the authorities quickly.

8. Changes

The date at the top changes with each version. If something important changes, the app asks you again.
